What a Week!

It’s been a little more than a week now, and Rome seems a little more familiar to me now. I know a couple of routes from my apartment to school and back, the way to the grocery store and bakeries, how to get around on the metro and it’s really nice to be familiar (even if only a little!) with a place that seemed completely foreign only a week ago!

This week has been a whirlwind meeting new people, going to sites and walk-walk-walking around everywhere! We have class for about an hour starting at 9am from Mondays to Thursdays, then we’re off all day on site visits! We visited The Palatine Hill, Circus Maximus, the Capitoline Hill and its Museum (the first ever museum in history! SO amazing… I spent hours in there long after many of my program mates had left.), the ancient Roman port of Ostia Antica, the Roman Forum, and two theatres in the Campus Martius area of Ancient Rome. It’s been absolutely thrilling to be amidst all this history, but also exhausting walking it all and taking it all in.  There’s just so much to digest! It’s like ancient ruins, layers of history, foundations of civilisation at every corner and we’re visiting multiple places every day. Rome is just layers and layers of ancient history and it’s been so great to be able to unearth all of it bit by bit with the guide of our readings and classes. Breath-taking, but I’m also appreciating the weekend break to just process it all in my head!

It’s been a process of getting to know the rest of the group, but it’s definitely been a blessing to be able to chat, eat and drink wine together, and just be around each other. Hopefully, by the end of the quarter, we’ll all have known each other much better :)

I’ll try to post more pictures, but it takes forever on this internet connection. I miss you all lots!
